Nearly 3,000 visitors, customers and partners gathered on Saturday, September 13, for the inauguration of the new 830-meter quay at the Pampus terminal – one of the largest infrastructure investments in the port’s history. The inauguration took place during the “Stora Hamndagen” (Great Port Day), where visitors enjoyed speeches and celebrations in brilliant sunshine.

Shipping is vital for Sweden – nine out of ten products arrives through the Swedish ports. With the new quay, Port of Norrköping strengthens its role as a central hub for trade, competitiveness and sustainable development.

“With the new quay at the Pampus terminal, we are taking a major step into the future. The investment demonstrates the long-term commitment and collaboration required to build a sustainable and competitive port,” said Henrik Åkerström, CEO of Port of Norrköping.

Voices from the inauguration

The Director General of the Swedish Maritime Administration, Erik Eklund, emphasized the importance of shipping for Sweden:

“Shipping is the lifeblood of our trade. When ports like Norrköping develop their infrastructure, it strengthens the competitiveness of the entire country.”

In a panel discussion with some of the port’s largest customers – Billerud, Holmen, MSC, Rusta and Siemens Energy – the importance of collaboration in meeting future logistics and sustainability challenges was highlighted:

“It is in the partnership between industry, trade and ports that solutions for a more sustainable transport chain emerge,” said Åsa Lyckström, Head of Sustainability at Siemens Energy.

Olle Vikmång, Chair of Norrköping’s Municipal Executive Board, underlined the local and regional significance:

“The new quay is an investment in jobs, growth and the sustainable transport solutions of the future, strengthening both Norrköping as a city and the business community of Östergötland as a whole.”

Michaela Tinnerholm, Chair of the Board at Port of Norrköping, emphasized the port’s role as a long-term community actor:

“Our vision is to create tomorrow’s sustainable port together. Today’s inauguration is proof that we are delivering on that vision.”
