Electrified rail connection
Adjacent to the port development other infrastructural projects are being performed.
Kardonbanan
A new electric train track called Kardonbanan now connects the Southern main line near Åby to the Norrköping port. It’s been put into action to make handling goods smoother and boost the amount of goods moved by train.
The Swedish Transport Administration and the Municipality of Norrköping are sharing the costs for this project.
New shunting yard under construction
When the East Link project is constructed through Norrköping, the existing shunting yard will be impacted and will have to be moved. The Swedish Transport Administration and the Municipality of Norrköping are now constructing a new shunting yard close to the port where Kardonbanan will link up with the new yard.
The project is estimated to be completed in spring 2025.
