On May 6, the new nature trail on Händelö was inaugurated in the protected natural area adjacent to the port’s operations. The trail is the result of a long-term collaboration between Norrköpings Hamn and the Municipality of Norrköping, and is also connected to the port’s ongoing work with biodiversity.
The nature trail follows historic pathways from the old English park at Händelö Manor. Through careful restoration work, the municipality has recreated and adapted the trails with a focus on preserving and strengthening the area’s natural values while making the site accessible to more visitors.
Nature and port operations in harmony
Deputy CEO Ola Hjärtström inaugurated the trail and highlighted how nature and port operations can coexist.
“It is fascinating to see the remarkable natural values that exist here side by side with the port’s operations. This is a great example of how we can work together to take responsibility for biodiversity while operating a modern and efficient port,” said Ola Hjärtström during the inauguration.
He also extended a warm thank you to several of those who helped make the project possible.
“A special thanks to the municipality’s ecologist Malin Larsson, our Environmental Manager Daniel Andersson, and not least our receptionist Lene Albin, who through great commitment and persistence has been a strong driving force behind this work.”
Close collaboration with the municipality and long-term commitment
The project has been carried out in close dialogue with the municipality over several years. One person who has played a particularly important role is Lene Albin, who has worked as a receptionist at Norrköpings Hamn for many years. Through persistent dialogue and long-term dedication, she has helped turn the nature trail into reality. During the inauguration, this was specially recognized, and the trail was named “Lene’s Trail” in honor of her efforts.
