In the middle of January, Kombiverkehr started up a new intermodal service from Europe to Norrköping which runs three days a week. This opens increased possibilities for sustainable transport from Norrköping to Europe. We talked to Björn Saschenbrecker, Head of Business Development at Kombiverkehr who told us more about how this new service came to life and why this is a sustainable solution.

Why did you choose Norrköping?

“We were looking for an area to consolidate volumes south of Stockholm for further transportation south. For us, this area is not so well connected, and we wanted to develop something new to provide our customers with additional solutions. Norrköping is very well located and the Port of Norrköping has invested a lot in its infrastructure and we wanted to be a part of this”, said Björn.

Was it an easy process to establish this new link to Norrköping?

“This has been set up together with one of our large customers, Bode, and it was clear to us that the Port of Norrköping was very eager to make this happen. Like with every project, it has been a process. In this case, we have received a very professional response and all the topics have been followed up on carefully. I am confident that we can quickly address any hiccups should any arise, and this to me is proof that we have a reliable partner in the Port of Norrköping ”, Björn continued.

What are your ambitions going forward?

“Attracting more goods to rail is the overall ambition. There are huge climate gains to be made and we hope to find new customers who can now move their goods more sustainable. That coupled with lead times of only 36 hours Norrköping – Duisburg, we offer a solid and competitive one-stop-shop solution. We are starting up with departures three times a week, but our aim is to have daily departures. Our main selling point is ‘New green solution to Norrköping’. I think we will be very successful”, Björn concludes with a smile.
