Several of our port areas and terminals are designated as protected objects, some of which are also subject to a prohibition on photography or other forms of imaging. All protected objects are clearly marked.

Our port area is also covered by the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code). This regulatory framework concerns the security of ships and port facilities and is implemented in Sweden through the Swedish Maritime Security Act (2004:487).

Protected Object

This area is designated as a protected object under Swedish law. Only persons with an approved assignment and authorization from NHAB are permitted to be in the area.

A protected object is an activity or facility of vital importance to society and is subject to enhanced legal protection against sabotage, terrorist offences, espionage, and aggravated robbery. A protected object may consist of a building, an area, or another type of facility.

The County Administrative Board decides whether civilian facilities are to be designated as protected objects. The designation means that unauthorized persons are prohibited from entering the area. This prohibition also applies to entry using unmanned vehicles, for example drones.

Access and Control

Only authorized persons are permitted access to a protected object. Anyone seeking access to, or staying within, a protected object must, upon request by security personnel:

– state their name, age, and residential address

– submit to a body search (excluding examination of letters or other private documents)
– allow inspection of vehicles, vessels, or aircraft brought to the site.

Marking of Protected Objects

Protected objects are normally marked with yellow signs placed on buildings, fences, gates, or other boundaries. The signs indicate who has issued the decision, the legal basis for the designation, and the prohibitions that apply.

It is possible to apply for an exemption from the photography prohibition. Please email us at: info@nhs.se

You can read more about protected objects on the the County Administrative Board’s website

The map on the left shows where the different prohibitions apply.
