The Municipality of Norrköping announces that the Händelö Bridge has been closed due to structural damage. An inspection shows that the damage is extensive, meaning that neither road nor rail traffic can pass in the coming weeks. Larger vessels are also unable to pass, as the bridge is currently in a closed position. Pedestrians and cyclists can, at present, still use the bridge.
All traffic is being diverted to Kardon Bridge until further notice.
Preliminary reopening timeline
Due to the extent of the damage, the bridge is expected to reopen for road traffic at the earliest in 2–3 weeks.
More extensive works are required to enable vessel traffic, which are estimated to take several months.
